Charles Taylor Wines Ltd

Yesterday’s wine tasting was by Charles Taylor Wines Ltd in Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University. It was a Germany tasting and unfortunately, I had only about forty minutes to get round a selection of 25 wines, meaning I ended up sampling only about ten. All German wines tend to be quite sweet, but my favourite wasn’t particularly. It was the 2005 Oestricher Lenchen Riesling Kabinett, which I gave 9/10. The nose was slightly cheesey, I could taste bananas, pineapples and mangos and the finish was just a fading version of the flavour, but very satisfying. These wines tend to be around 9.5% alcohol, although I forgot to check this one (it was near the end of a rush!). It wasn’t all that expensive, at £93 per dozen bottles. I was rushing because I needed to get to dinner at Jesus College, where I spoke with an astronomer named Bill whose comb-over covered half the Milky Way and the Magellanic Cloud! (Oh, and his head, of course.)
