The Wine Society party

As you might expect, the Cambridge Wine Society garden party was the one that had the most interesting selection of wines.  I didn’t manage them all, or write up any notes, but I did get a nice photo of the bottles.  The champagne was Pol Roger, which speaks for itself. The rosé wine was a real pleaser.  It was a Domaine de Tourelle ’06, and surprisingly dry.  One I did not go for was the German Riesling.  I was assured that it was a good one (there is no such thing), but the friends who did try it reported it was too sweet.  They nearly always are.  However, the New Zealand Riesling won praise.  The other one to surprise me was the Bordeaux rouge.  I have cultivated my taste for the new world reds and find many European ones too bland unless one pays a lot of money.  This one was very smooth and balanced and not remotely boring.  It was a Michel Lynch ’06 Bordeaux, and I must get some.
