It had been another hot day in Frankfurt, and on the way home from work I called in at my local supermarket to buy a tray of sushi for a light dinner. It was all nicely prepared, with ginger, wasabi and soy sauce on the side.
The main problem with it though, as with other supermarket sushi I have had, is the rice. Having been in the cool for several days, it becomes dry and a bit hard. The soy sauce moistens it, but not sufficiently. I contrast it with the moist softness of freshly-made sushi in a good Japanese restaurant.
The fish itself was fine, but this leads to the second problem. The labelling includes lots of bar codes, information about recycling and the like, but nowhere does it actually say what kind of fish you are eating. No marks for picking salmon, but the other three?    Â
