Drinks with Loons

The County Arms is a quiet pub up Castle Hill on the west side of the historical centre of Cambridge. They serve pretty good food, the current owners having moved from a nearby place. It’s Sichuan cuisine, and my drinking companion chose to have spring rolls (of which I stole one, which was crispy and fresh) and chicken satay skewers, which I’m told were good, although I didn’t try them myself, not being keen on the peanut sauce.

I drank some cider, Strongbow this time, whilst chatting with my friend. The opinions he voiced were so utterly absurd that I found myself wondering whether he had an ulterior motive for voicing them. Things like, ‘nothing has been invented in recent times’ and that ‘style, such as with clothing, hadn’t changed in three decades.’ I, of course, listed things like mobile telephony, Google, computing in general, budget airlines, flat-screen televisions, and so forth. Still he wouldn’t concede, so I decided to tune out of that conversation and retreated into another cider.
