Cincinnati Supper Club: The Ninth

Cincinnati Supper Club: The Ninth

Last night was the November installment of the Cincinnati Supper Club, a structured but informal gathering I started when I moved from London to Cincinnati back in March. It’s an event that’s gone from strength to strength, attended by uniformly fantastic people, and I’m very pleased with myself for having brought them all together.

The best thing is that someone else does the cooking and clean-up every month (except when I’m hosting, which I’ve done twice). Guests just bring something to drink. This month I brought along a bag of Godiva chocolate creme coffee for afters.

It’s the ‘befores’ that give me trouble. I fill up on pre-dinner nibbles and then feel too full to enjoy as much supper as I’d like. Last night, the honeycrisp apples served with (”light”) caramel apple dip were my downfall. Well, co-downfall: The jalapeno marmalde over cream cheese, served with crackers, was just as irresistable.

I’ve tried everything to resist temptation with the hors d’œuvres, and so far nothing short of eating a full meal before I leave the house ever helps. But that rather ruins the whole supper club thing for me. Perhaps a complete moratorium on anything before the first course (applicable to myself only) is in order.
