Scallops at the Albanach
I hadn’t intended to eat at the Albanach in Trafalgar Square, but I was passing by with a friend and spotted something different about it. I went in and saw that there had been a complete make-over since I was last there. The bar area is now upstairs on the mezzanine, and the ground floor level is now given over entirely to dining tables. It means there is a lot more room to eat in, but those in for a pre or post theatre drink are somewhat crowded on busy nights. This was not one, so we decided to eat there. There was nothing wrong with the food; it just seemed rather ordinary, given the somewhat high prices. I thought the best dish of the night was the scallops I ordered as a starter. They were tastefully presented, and slightly blackened on the outside, yet soft sand succulent within. I had lamb to follow, but it was neither as pink as I like it, nor particularly memorable.
