Excellent meats at Effes
I suppose it’s been years since I went to Effes Turkish restaurant in King Street, Cambridge. It does really good meats, and displays them and cooks them in full view in the restaurant itself – always a good sign. I never had a bad meal there. This time without booking we secured a table for two right next to the meats waiting to be cooked.
It’s been ages since I had taramasalata, but I love it. It’s a great starter, with a piquant taste. Its classic version is from carp roe, but most of it in Britain is made from cod roe, I’m told.
I went on to have antep kebab, the ‘hot’ version of the usual lamb mince meatballs on skewers. It was very tasty. We drank a yakut Turkish red with it, a wine I think goes well with Turkish meats. We left feeling we’d had a really satisfying meal. Does one ask for more?
