Surreptitious photos of lunch at The Wolseley

I blogged about this one previously. At lunch there on Tuesday, I could not resist seconds. It was as dreamy as I’d remembered.
My main course was the duck confit with ceps and teensy potatoes, which came in a lovely sauce. The outside of the duck was admirably crisp, the inside tender and rich. Alongside, I had minted summer peas – oh, how wonderful the lowly pea can be! – and some of my dining companion’s heirloom tomato salad, which was also flawless.
Apart from the food, what I like about The Wolseley is that it feels like the sort of place your parents would have taken you for a once-a-year treat if you’d grown up in, say, 1956. Eating there feels like a special occasion, something very grown up and fun at the same time. In short, it makes me feel like a kid again. Maybe next time I’ll go for the knickerbocker glory…
