Wente

wente-(US)

I really don’t tend to drink US wines, but we were sitting outside at the back of the Cork and Bottle to sample some new Nicaraguan cigars, and thought a not-too-heavy red might be about right.  One of us spotted this on the wine list, Wente Southern Hills 2007 cabernet sauvignon from Livermore Valley in the San Francisco Bay area.  Wente Vineyards is described as the country’s oldest, continuously operated family-owned winery.  Obviously they have learned how to do it, because it was rather good.
